Tyson Fury announces ‘hybrid’ fight with UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou
Tyson Fury and UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou have said they will meet in the ring to fight – just minutes after the Gypsy King had suggested he would be retiring.
“The Gypsy King” has successfully defended his WBC strap against Dillian Whyte on Sunday, flooring his rival with a brutal uppercut in the sixth round.
In the post-fight interview, the 33-year-old seemingly declared that he was content with his career and ready to hang up the gloves after the win.
“I think this is it” Fury said when he asked whether he would fight again.
Despite the retirement talk, Fury brought UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou out from the stands to announce a fight and hyped up a clash against the mixed martial artist who is months away from the end of his UFC contract.
“This is going to be one very special fight,” Fury told ESPN “It’ll be something never before seen in the history of our sport. We’re not talking two guys around 140lb, I’m 270lb, he’s 270lb. It’s going to be an explosive fight when it happens.”
“I’m the boxing heavyweight champion, he’s the UFC heavyweight champion, he’s in great shape, look at the muscles on him,” Fury continued. Ngannou added: “We are going to find out who is the baddest * on the planet,” to which Fury replied “good man Francis”.
Fury may be done with boxing but clearly sees the value in a meeting with Ngannou, as does his promoter.
