Jose Aldo and Jonathan Martinez are set to collide in the co-main event of UFC 301 at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro this Saturday.
Aldo, the seasoned veteran, returns to the octagon for the first time since his defeat to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278 on August 20, 2022. Prior to that loss, he had secured three consecutive victories, all via unanimous decision, following a fifth-round KO/TKO defeat in a title bout against Petr Yan at UFC 251.
Despite announcing his retirement in 2022, Aldo had been pursuing a potential matchup with Dominick Cruz. When that fell through, Martinez stepped in to fill Cruz’s slot, ensuring Aldo remained on the card in his home country of Brazil.
Meanwhile, Martinez enters the bout on the back of an impressive six-fight winning streak since his second-round KO/TKO loss to Davey Grant in March 2021. Within this streak, he boasts two knockout victories alongside four unanimous decision wins.
