Last Saturday, Michel Pereira picked up a huge win with a split decision over Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Vegas 55 and took advantage of the spotlight to challenge Jorge Masvidal.
According to the Brazilian, the reason of the callout was a bit random if not bizarre, which was Masvidal sent his wife a prayer emoji.
“I really want to fight Nate Diaz, because I think it would be really fun to slap each other around. I think it would be a really fun fight. I think we’re going to put on a show for all the fans. Or Jorge Masvidal, because I have a little bit of a problem with him, and I want to settle it.
“He sent an emoji to my wife, the emoji with the two hands together like ‘amen.’ He sent it to my wife. He didn’t send it to me. I’ve never actually crossed paths with him. I didn’t have a chance to ask him, so I figured I really want to understand. But I might as well understand inside the octagon, settle it over there.”
However, this Sunday, it was the veteran’s turn to give his version. On his Twitter account, “Gamebred” claimed that Pereira is trying to “create a fake narrative” to lock in a fight with him.
Masvidal shared a screenshot of the conversation with Pereira’s wife “Gina Amir Atelier”. The screenshot shows him responding with the prayer-hands emoji to a well-wish from Atelier.
