Video: Alex Pereira is currently weighing in at 243 pounds
Despite a few years of cutting to 185 pounds to fight Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira always looked huge in the cage. His move to light heavyweight was expected, and even after gaining 20 pounds, “Poatan” has seemed bigger and stronger than most of his opponents during his swift ascent to becoming a two-division champion.
Alex Pereira’s light heavyweight title reign ended in March with a decision loss to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313. Despite being promised an immediate rematch, negotiation issues have reportedly arisen, with Ankalaev claiming Pereira has declined the opportunity multiple times.
On Tuesday, a video posted on social media shows Alex Pereira stepping on a scale and weighing in at 243 pounds. This naturally sparked speculation among fans, many of whom are now wondering if “Poatan” will be making a jump to the heavyweight division.
With Jon Jones officially retired, a fight against heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall would be the highest-profile title defense available. It would also give Aspinall the chance to thwart Pereira’s attempt at becoming a three-division champion.
