Sean Strickland has announced he will likely not have Eric Nicksick in his corner

Sean Strickland was not happy with his coach Eric Nicksick’s comments about his performance at UFC 312.

Sean Strickland responded to criticism of his performance at UFC 312, including comments from his coach Eric Nicksick where he said during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show  that it was a “very underwhelming performance” and an “uninspiring” effort from Strickland.  In a lengthy Twitter video, the former champion addressed his shortcomings in the fight against Dricus du Plessis. While he intends to maintain a friendship with Nicksick but their professional relationship appears to be on hold for now.

“I like Eric,” Strickland said. “He’s a friend of mine. He’s going to continue to be a friend of mine. Will he probably be in my corner? Probably not. We have so many great guys at Xtreme. … We have so many savages that can corner me. But that entire fight camp was just a struggle. It was a f*cking struggle, and we all have excuses as to why we didn’t win, or why we won or we shouldn’t have won. We all f*cking have excuses, and they don’t f*cking matter.”

“You guys, I don’t fight to put belts on the wall. I don’t fight because Eric wants to go do a fancy podcast,” Strickland stated. “Before fighting, you guys, I had the lowest self-esteem. I couldn’t even look at myself in the f*cking mirror. Through fighting, I’ve learned so much, met so many amazing people. … You guys have changed my f*cking life. You’ve made me grow so much as a person, in the ring and out of the ring. That’s why I fight.”
