Khamzat Chimaev is ready to prove that his breakout 2020 campaign was no fluke.
UFC welterweight flavor of the month Khamzat Chimaev is gearing up to fight longtime 170-pound contender Leon Edwards in the promotion’s upcoming “Fight Night” main event on March 13, presumably in Las Vegas or Abu Dhabi.
“I want to smash him, brother. I want to destroy him. I want to take his head, And collect every head like this. I have nine right now, but soon I’ll have 10. Then we’ll continue collecting more, Chimaev said.
“I’ve never seen Edwards fight, I’ve only seen highlights of Usman beating him. Highlights on YouTube, something like that. If Usman won like that, I’ll demolish him.
“He has no knockout power or anything special at all. I’ll dominate both him and Usman. Inshallah. Soon.”
Chimaev was scheduled to fight Edwards on Jan. 20, but he had to withdraw from the bout since he was not fully recovered from his COVID-19 infection. Reported by MMA Junkie, Chimaev had lingering issues with his lung capacity and needed more time to prepare for Edwards, forcing the UFC to reschedule the bout for March 13.
