The recent verbal joust between Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman seems to have had the right effect, or at least served as the ‘little push’ that was missing for the two to be cast in the UFC. After all, Dana White confirmed that the UFC working on the fight for the welterweight belt for the International Fight Week this summer in Las Vegas.
“We will go to Las Vegas, ” White said in an interview with Jim Rowe on Friday afternoon. “Him and Usman will fight in Vegas probably at International Fight Week. If Masvidal wins, maybe he will have his first belt defense here in Miami. ”
“That was always the plan, whatever happened to them a couple of days ago, whatever it is. We still don’t announce it, but now, this has forced me to announce it. ”
Usman is recovering an injury to his left hand after knocking out Colby Covington. But his manager Ali Abdelaziz revealed to MMA Fighting that he will be ready to compete in March or April.
On the part of Masvidal, the Cuban is on a three-win streak against Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz . This will be his first fight for the belt after arriving at the organization in 2013.
At the moment with nothing signed, UFC is looking for the time to schedule the fight of Usman and Masvidal in one of the most important billboards of the year.
