Jon Jones refutes Khabib Nurmagomedov’s top pound-for-pound

Jon Jones has slammed suggestions Khabib Nurmagomedov is the best pound-for-pound fighter of all time with the 15-time champion insisting ‘the numbers don’t lie’.

The Russian announced his retirement after stretching his unbeaten record to 29-0 by beating Justin Gaethje, with UFC president Dana White claiming he deserved GOAT status.

The Eagle hasn’t always been the sexiest type of fighter in terms of approach for some fans. He is a pressure fighter with incredible grappling skills and sometimes that doesn’t make for the most exciting fight, but he’s proven time and time again that he was untouchable at his weight.

Other fighters that have to be in the greatest of all-time discussion includes names like Georges St-Pierre – who many thought Khabib would fight next – Anderson Silva and Jon Jones.

Khabib spoke to UFC commentator Jon Anik, stating: “There is only one thing I want from UFC, to put me as No 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world because I deserve it.”

Jones Jones, shortly after Khabib’s claims, issued an overt objection, stating that Khabib’s achievements don’t come close to rival what he has done in the cage.

Daniel Cormier explains why he’s wrong:
