Without fighting since September 2019, Dustin Poirier does not take it out of his mind that his return to the octagon has to happen in front of Nate Diaz. The American had previously shown his desire for a fight against his countryman and reinforced this idea. One reason for this desire is the fighting style of the possible rival.
Poirier vs Diaz, could it happen in 2020?
“ I know it’s a fight in which I can shine. Poirier told MMA Junkie. This point in my career would be excited to do that training camp and do those rounds of boxing and those rounds of jujitsu to prepare. He is a fun opponent and I think I could do a very good performance against him with the whole team around me. ”
In UFC or in boxing?
In addition to showing interest in this confrontation, Poirier proposes another idea.
“ I would also be willing to fight boxing if that’s what he wants to do . I wish Zuffa Boxing was around and we’d have an opportunity. Him and his brother always talk about crossing over to boxing. I could show you my skills. ”
The truth is that right now there are no meaningful fights for Poirier in the lightweight . He should get at least one victory for a new starting opportunity. Obviously, Conor McGregor would be a good option, but it seems that he will continue in the welter, and if he returns at 155 pounds he will be compete for the championship.
On the other hand, it could face the winner of Dan Hooker vs. Paul Felder . Or wait for the loser of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson .
And if he think about going up to 170 pounds, then more options would come to play. But we will see if that is what he wants to do.
