Despite not experiencing his best moment in the UFC with two straight losses, Donald Cerrone is excited to face Conor McGregor at UFC 246 on 18 January. Even with the spotlight all focused on the return of the Irishman to the octagon, the ‘Cowboy’ made a point of valuing his franchise history as a favorite for this clash, which will be valid for the middleweight category.
In an interview with ‘MMA Fighting’, the American highlighted his longevity in UFC to say that he is a better athlete than McGregor. Currently the fighter is the record winner in the organization with 23.
“Feel like a better MMA fighter? Certainly. I’ve been in big fights, I’ve walked this way many times. This will be my 51st MMA fight coming out of that tunnel. I literally made this path more than anyone. I am very happy to have a fight. I’ve been doing interviews for a long time. Now I’m excited, ”he said.
“They called me and said Conor wants to face you in the middleweight. I accepted. It was nothing different. We had a healthy camp without losing weight. We need not worry about diet. We can just focus on training and being healthy. To get the best of Conor and Cowboy, just like that, ”he said.
Donald Cerrone comes from two straight defeats, the last of them to Justin Gaethje in September this year by knockout. Already Conor McGregor has been without a fight since October 2018, when he was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight belt.
