At the UFC 254 official weigh-ins, Khabib Nurmagomedov looked nervous.
UFC 254’s main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje is on, but there’s some questions about whether Khabib’s weigh in was legitimate.
The UFC lightweight champion was the first to step on the scale. A visibly drained Khabib had to use a towel. As soon as Khabib stepped onto the scale, the official announced the weight of 155-pounds. However, as was clearly clear in the video, the balance had yet not settled and was on an upward trajectory.
So here’s what to look for: as Khabib is preparing to step onto the scale, you can see the scale weight is set to 155. That means when he steps on, the grey bar should balance. If Khabib weighs more than 155, the grey bar will float up and touch the black bar above it. Lower than the contracted weight, and it will float downward.
The video shows the bar begin to rise before the official slams back the counterweight and declares Khabib at 155 pounds. The bar never got a chance to settle into a floating middle position.
The UFC 254 main event is now official after both fighters made the lightweight limit during the weigh-ins from Abu Dhabi on Friday.
